Rachel is a settler from Treaty 13 Territory, the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples.

Rachel’s background in linguistics, teaching and project management come together in her work as Kwusen’s Digital Services Manager. In this role, Rachel supports Indigenous territorial stewardship, language revitalization, and governance by leading a team in providing support and training on Kwusen’s digital tools. Day-to-day, she manages support staff and digital project delivery, including mapping projects, cultural heritage data management strategies, and fieldwork data collection.  

Rachel received her Ph.D. in Linguistics at the University of British Columbia, and an M.A. and B.A. in Linguistics at the University of Toronto. As a linguist, she has co-authored 10 peer-reviewed papers in 9 journals (8 as first author) and a book chapter in the Cambridge Handbook of Bilingual Phonetics and Phonology. Outside of research, Rachel is passionate about teaching, scientific communication, and relationship building. She has worked as a Lecturer and Laboratory Coordinator across several of Canada’s top institutions, and a Teaching Assistant Training Coordinator, leading training and facilitation workshops.
