Sarah Raven, M.A.

Indigenous Rights Researcher

Settler who grew up on the territories of the sn̓ʕaýckstx (Sinixt), Secwépemc, Ktunaxa, and Syilx Peoples.

She/Her

As a Kwusen Researcher, Sarah has worked with First Nations communities in Alberta and British Columbia. She leads and co-leads interviews and community workshops, reviews interview data using Kwusen’s research and consultation software, the Community KnowledgeKeeper (CKK), conducts extensive archival research, report/memo writing, and collection management assistance for Kwusen’s repatriation database and archive (in development). In her recent work with Kwusen, Sarah has conducted Indigenous Land and Marine Use Studies, Cumulative Effects Assessments, Research Gap Analyses, Oral History and Genealogy Studies, and Museum Collection & Repatriation Management support with Gitxaała First Nation, Okanagan Indian Band, Fort McKay First Nation, Kitsumkalum First Nation, Adams Lake Indian Band, and Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation.

Sarah holds an M.A. in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia, a B.A. in Anthropology (Hons) from the University of British Columbia, and an associate degree in Indigenous Studies from Langara College. Her previous work as a research assistant with the Museum of Anthropology was spent conducting interviews and ethnographic research for “The Fabric of our Land” exhibition that showcased textiles, knowledge, and stories from Salish weavers.
